Seascapes, a series of photographs by Sarah McDonald, opens on the Staff Art Wall at University Hospital Waterford and is on show until 12 September 2024.
Sarah McDonald is currently the Administrator in the Medical Social Work Department at UHW.
While in secondary school, Sarah won a photography competition run by her local Credit Union. She took her interest further and completed a Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Photography at Waterford College of Further Education. Sarah has assisted on photo shoots for Xposé TV show and VIP magazine with photographer Lili Forberg, and she has photographed many music acts, including The Rattling Kind, Kodaline and Gavin James.
Sarah’s main love, though, is photographing the place she calls home, Tramore, County Waterford. Canon is her preferred brand of camera and, while she’s happy to shoot using a digital SLR, she loves film photography.
This Seascapes collection was shot using Sarah’s Canon film camera on Tramore beach on a cold but sunny winter day, her favourite type of day in Tramore. Sarah developed these photos in a darkroom at Waterford College of Education during her studies in photography, and the collection was exhibited in their end of year exhibition. Sarah hopes everyone enjoys this collection as much as she enjoyed capturing the shots.
The Staff Art Wall is an initiative of Waterford Healing Arts which aims to celebrate the creativity of staff working at UHW by providing an opportunity to display their work at the hospital.
